Anne Snyder

Author & Editor

Anne Snyder is an author and editor exploring the concept of shared morality in an age of polarization and fracture.

Anne Snyder is a widely published author and the Editor-in-Chief of Comment, a magazine of public theology. From 2016 to 2019, she directed The Philanthropy Roundtable’s Character Initiative, bringing together donors, and civic and business leaders seeking to improve the moral culture of their organizations. She is a fellow at the Center for Opportunity Urbanism, a Houston-based think tank that explores the role of cities in promoting upward mobility, and is a trustee for the Center for Public Justice, a nonprofit research and civic education organization.

She previously worked for the Texas-based H.E. Butt Family Foundation and The New York Times. Her book, “The Fabric of Character: A Wise Giver’s Guide to Renewing Our Social and Moral Landscape,” was published in 2019.

As an Emerson Collective Fellow, Anne will explore the possibilities for building moral commons in an age of polarization and fracture. She will do this through her own writing, as well as through the building and hosting of Breaking Ground, a collaborative web commons seeking to cohere and equip the fragmented community of faith to respond wisely and generatively to all that’s being revealed in both the COVID-19 pandemic and the country’s reckoning with systemic injustice.
