Julia Collins

Climate-Technology Entrepreneur

Julia Collins is on a mission to make consumer products part of the solution to climate change.

Julia Collins has spent her career building food companies. She became the first Black woman to co-found a startup that would reach “unicorn” status (valued at more than $1 billion) after launching her robotic pizza company, Zume, in 2018. Today, she leads Planet FWD, a startup that is helping food brands reduce their environmental impact.

Planet FWD’s technology allows food companies to analyze their carbon footprints more quickly, more efficiently, and at a much lower cost than they could previously. First, Planet FWD helps brands understand how their ingredients, and their packaging, processing, and transportation systems, contribute to their overall carbon footprints. Then, it guides them through the process of mitigating those carbon footprints by improving the sustainability of their supply chains.

To create a blueprint for other companies to follow, Julia and Planet FWD launched Moonshot, a sustainable snack brand. Moonshot crackers are made from regeneratively grown ingredients. They are packaged in 100%-recycled cardboard, and are carbon neutral, demonstrating to other brands the possibilities of climate-friendly products.
