Tiana Epps-Johnson is leading an effort to make the American voting experience more accessible, secure, and inclusive.

Voting is the foundation of American democracy. It’s how the public makes its voice heard, holds elected officials accountable, and steers the direction of the country. However, all too often, the local officials charged with administering elections have limited resources and outdated technology, and therefore struggle to meet challenges, like ensuring cybersecurity, and implementing new election legislation.

Tiana Epps-Johnson and the Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL) are working to change that by equipping local election officials in the U.S. with the resources they need to administer modern elections. In addition to providing millions of dollars to election departments, CTCL provides training in cybersecurity and election-administration intricacies ranging from ballot drop-box usage to pandemic-response plans. Through its “Reimagining Elections” initiative, CTCL is offering local departments new programming, new tools, and coaching, with the potential to transform voting access for 244 million eligible voters in 2022 — and beyond.

“We are leading a transformation from an under-resourced system that leaves tens of millions of voters behind, to a system powered by high-performing election departments that inspire public confidence and build trust,” Tiana says.
