Modern Healthcare talks to the School of Medicine Dean about healthcare technology, its impact on training doctors, and more.
Now, more than ever before, advances in technology are significantly driving the medical field—not only in the cutting-edge tools used to conduct research, engage patients, and improve workstreams, but also in how physicians are trained. It’s important, says Dr. Lloyd Minor, dean of Stanford University School of Medicine, that physicians be trained early and often to interact meaningfully with new technologies: They must learn how to use technology in ways that are timely, collaborative, and not disruptive to physician-patient relationships.
While a one-size-fits-all approach to medical curriculum has never really “fit all,” he says, “it particularly doesn’t fit all today.”
